Automakers constantly need to adjust their offerings based on the needs and desires of consumers. This is evident with the 2025 Toyota Supra, as its 4-cylinder engine is being removed from the lineup, thereby eliminating the most affordable version of the model. Toyota recently unveiled the 2025 Supra, and the 4-cylinder engine no longer appears to be part of the offering.
The fact is, the majority of buyers choose the 6-cylinder version with the manual transmission. The irony is that Toyota initially stated they would never offer this type of transmission when the Supra was launched. However, the Japanese automaker eventually changed its stance, and I believe this was an excellent decision since the model's sales have been increasing since. The Toyota Supra has always been popular, but the manual transmission certainly makes the Japanese sports car even more desirable.
One Choice Only
For 2025, there will be only one engine option available: a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. This engine produces 382 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. It's worth noting that this engine is actually a BMW engine. In case you weren't aware, the Toyota Supra is based on the same platform as the BMW Z4.
If you're not a fan of manual transmissions, which would surprise me given the nature of this car, the 8-speed automatic transmission will still be available for 2025 with the 6-cylinder engine. However, I believe most buyers will opt for the 6-speed manual transmission. The car can achieve 0 to 60 mph in less than 4.2 seconds with the manual transmission, a time that drops to 3.9 seconds with the automatic transmission. While the latter is faster, I am certain that the majority of buyers are willing to sacrifice a few tenths of a second in favor of a manual transmission.
There is a price difference of about $12,000 between the 4-cylinder version and the 6-cylinder version, which is quite significant. Nonetheless, it seems that buyers are willing to pay the price for extra power and especially for a manual transmission, which makes sense for this type of car. Now, we can only hope that 2025 won't be the last year of production for the model, as everything suggests that the BMW Z4 will be discontinued in 2026. Since the Z4 and the GR Supra are closely related, this certainly raises some concerns.
